1984
After the Atomic War the world is divided into three states. London is the capital of Oceania, ruled by a party which has total control of over its citizens.
Winston Smith is a Party worker. He works in the records Department of the Ministry of Truth - the section charged with modifying historical news archives and rewriting history. When by chance Winston uncovers proof that the Party is lying, he embarks on a journey of self-questioning. In doing so, he becomes a thought-criminal.
Winston begins to notice that a young party member, Julia, is watching him. He fears that she is an informant. However, to his surprise, she reveals herself as a subversive and they embark on an illicit and dangerous relationship. They try to escape Big Brother's listening and viewing devices, but, of course, nobody can really escape.

Sono entrambe certificazioni che attestano il livello di conoscenza della lingua in base al Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento (Qcer) e sono riconosciute a livello internazionale.
I moduli per l'iscrizione e i bollettini prestampati si possono richiedere a tutte le insegnanti di lingue.

La tesina non è obbligatoria.
Consiglio comunque un percorso per integrare le discipline.
I candidati esterni possono chiamare Tatiana presso la segreteria didattica e concordare un colloquio con i docenti. Io sarò a scuola martedì pomeriggio.
Se l'argomento della tesina fosse economico, la parte di lingua inglese possono essere articoli del Financial Times (o altri inerenti).

A causa del ritiro della candidatura da parte di un numero di studenti tale da non consentire il mantenimento delle tariffe concordate con la Conlan School, il nostro istituto rinuncia per quest'anno ad organizzare lo stage.
Coloro che hanno versato la quota di anticipo possono richiedere il rimborso compilando il modulo approntato dalla segrteria e allegando copia del bollettino.

Stage in Galles
A seguito della riunione svoltasi oggi pomeriggio, ricordo a tutti coloro che hanno presentato domanda di partecipazione che:
1. tutti gli studenti delle classi seconda, terza e quarta sono stati ammessi a partecipare;
2. i partecipanti devono versare la quota di anticipo di 200 euro entro il 10 marzo;
3. gli studenti delle classi prime verranno ammessi in caso di rinuncia da parte degli studenti delle classi più alte (o acquisiscono priorità di accesso per l'anno successivo);
4. le cifre di spesa preventivate sono di 460 euro per la scuola e 280 per il viaggio aereo;
5. i voli sono: dom 19 sett Malpensa h 19:50 - Manchester h 21:05
dom 26 sett Manchester h 15:55 - Malpensa h:19:15
6. la seconda tranche di pagamento è prevista per la fine delle attività didattiche (5 maggio) e la terza per settembre;
7. le condizioni previste dalla scuola sono elencate nel post precedente.

Stage in Gran Bretagna - programma e condizioni
Il soggiorno si svolgerà presso il centro di Conlan School ad Abergele nel Galles del Nord. Abergele si trova nella Contea di Conwy, ha una popolazione di 12.000 abitanti, è situata sulla costa nel Galles del Nord, distante 56 chilometri da Chester e circa 100 chilometri da Manchester e Liverpool. La splendida posizione offre agli studenti la possibilità di usufruire delle varie attrazioni che la costa, la campagna e le “rotonde” colline Gallese offrono. Conwy è conosciuta in tutto il mondo per il suo splendido Castello Medievale, considerato World Heritage Site.
Il programma di una settimana prevede:
- Programma didattico di 20 lezioni settimanali di 45 min ciascuna – in gruppi studio massimo 15 studenti ciascuno
- Sistemazione in famiglia (2 studenti per famiglia) con pensione completa (packed lunch per il pranzo)
- Materiale didattico
- Certificato di fine corso
- 2 gite di mezza giornata con nostro accompagnatore: alcune destinazioni sono: la località balneare Llandudno, il castello e la cittadina di Conwy, la città romana Chester, il castello di Bodelwyddan, ed altre similari)
- 1 gita di una giornata intera con nostro accompagnatore: Liverpool, Manchester, Snowdonia National Park, Salford Quays
- utilizzo gratuito di e-mail e internet presso “Itaca…”, nuovo Internet Café e Bistro situato al piano terra di Conlan
- abbonamento mezzi pubblici per la durata di tutto il periodo
- trasferta andata e ritorno dall’aeroporto di Liverpool o di Manchester
Recesso
- Qualora, per motivi di forza maggiore, il gruppo di studenti non intendesse più usufruire del servizio prenotato, con la accettazione della presente offerta, la Società Conlan LtD avrà diritto di ritenere, senza altra comunicazione, la caparra confirmatoria versata con la accettazione della presente offerta; e qualora la rinuncia venga espressa entro il 30° giorno antecedente la data di partenza prevista, ricevere una ulteriore penale pari al 20% del prezzo complessivo.
- In caso di recesso parziale, di uno o più studenti, la presente offerta rimane valida per un numero non inferiore a 10 studenti. In questa ipotesi sara comunque dovuta una penale pari al prezzo per ogni mancato partecipante dedotto il solo costo della Host family, pari ad euro 150,00 per settimana di permanenza.

Financial Times' disenchanted comment South Africa's political situation 20 years after the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of apartheid system.

To complicate matters, Jacob Zuma, the president and the man whose charisma and popularity had brought the various factions together to remove Thabo Mbeki from office 18 months ago, is bedevilled by sexual scandal. [...]
The ANC’s leftwing allies in the Communist party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions want a looser fiscal and monetary stance to create jobs. They criticise the way in which black economic empowerment policies have enriched a small group of businessmen who have political connections.

My message to those of you involved in this battle of brother against brother is this: take your guns, your knives, and your pangas, and throw them into the sea. Close down the death factories. In 1906, at the time when Bambatha led sections of Africans in a war to destroy the Poll Tax, our brothers who originated from India, led by Mahatma Gandhi, fought against the oppression of the British Government. In 1913, we see Indian workers striking in the sugar-cane plantations and in the coal mines. These actions show the oppressed of South Africa waging a struggle to end exploitation and oppression, mounting an important challenge to the repressive British rule. [...]
We have already waited for our freedom for far too long. We can wait no longer. Join forces, Indians, Coloureds, Africans and freedom-loving Whites, to give apartheid its final blow. In the process, let us develop active democracy. Democratic structures which serve the people must be established in every school, township, village, factory and farm.
Since my release, I have become more convinced than ever that the real makers of history are the ordinary men and women of our country; their participation in every decision about the future is the only guarantee of true democracy and freedom. [...]
